Our Story: A Legacy Woven in Silk

1955

Banaras. Two Brothers. One Vision

When Bhagwandas Agarwal and Mata Din Agarwal stepped into a small rented space in the heart of Banaras, they carried with them something more valuable than capital - they carried reverence for the loom.

This was not ambition born of opportunity. This was duty born of love.

Banaras in those days was what it has always been: the eternal city where silk doesn't merely exist - it breathes. Where the Ganga flows and the looms sing before dawn. Where weavers don't just practice a craft; they perform a devotion passed down through bloodlines older than memory.

The brothers understood this. They didn't come to trade in silk. They came to serve it.

1965

A Decade Later: MB Sarees

By 1965, that small space had transformed into MB Sarees - Meghraj Bhagwandas Sarees Pvt Ltd. - a name that would become inseparable from the finest Banarasi raw sarees and thans in the city.

But this was never about a storefront. It was about becoming guardians. Keepers of a tradition so intricate, so demanding, so exquisitely unforgiving that only those who truly understand silk's soul can honor it properly.

Every than that left our hands carried a silent promise: This is real. This is pure. This is Banaras.

The Present Era

Three Generations. One Unbroken Thread.

What the brothers began, their sons continued. What the sons nurtured, their children now carry for ward.

Three generations of our family have stood at this loom - not as merchants, but as custodians. We have watched trends rise and fall like monsoon waters. We have seen the market flood with imitations, with shortcuts, with silk that isn't silk and Banarasi that has never seen Banaras. We have not moved. Because legacy is not built on convenience. It is built on constancy.

On the quiet, relentless commitment to do things the way they have always been done - not because it is easy, but because it is right.

When you wear a Banarasiya piece, you carry three generations of this commitment with you.

The Hands That Weave Your Story

Close your eyes for a moment. Imagine a narrow gali in Banaras, where sunlight filters through in golden shards. A karigar sits at his loom - the same loom his father sat at, and his father before him. His fingers move with a certainty that bypasses thought. Thread by thread, row by row, he is not merely weaving fabric. He is weaving time itself.

Each saree takes months. Not days. Not weeks. Months. The zari must catch the light just so. The motif must emerge like a prayer made visible. One error, and he begins again.

Because perfection in Banarasi weaving is not a goal - it is the only acceptable outcome.

These are the hands we work with. These are the families we have walked beside for decades. We do not extract from them; we partner with them. We do not dictate terms; we honor their mastery. When you choose Banarasiya, you are choosing to keep these hands working. These families fed. This art form alive.

What We Stand For

There are easier paths we could take.
We could take shortcuts. We could blur the lines between handloom and powerloom. We could mark up prices just to mark them down again, making you feel you've won when really, you've been played. We don't.

If it is handloom, we say handloom. If it is powerloom, we say powerloom. If the price is what it is, it's because the craft demands it. If there's a sale, we'll tell you - honestly, openly, without games.

This is old-world integrity. The kind our founders built this house upon. The kind that doesn't shift with trends or quarterly targets.

Every piece we offer carries this same promise: honesty, always.
